Thought I'd better make that slight clarification in the title as tomorrow is actually one full week, but I started Day 1 with the day of my surgery.
So, I know everyone's wondering how work went today?! Well, let's just say I am beat! I woke up at 5:45 AM (first time in almost a week), got my little 1/2 hr work-out in, showered, ate and reported to my couch for work at 7:30 AM. By the time I signed on I was already tired and felt like I needed a nap - LOL! I was able to get through 4 hrs then took a much needed lunch break to play ball with the dog on the back deck (it was sunny and 60 degrees today - YEAH!), eat some lunch and take a 20 minute nap. Luckily, I woke up feeling slightly refreshed and able to make it through the next 4 hrs. Although it was tiring it sure beat the never ending nothingness of sitting around all day yesterday!
I started dinner again tonight to help out. :) It was potatoe bar night which doesn't involve more than about 5 minutes of standing to get potatoes cleaned and in the oven, and the toppings ready to go. I let my husband warm the cheese sauce and broccoli when he got home and pull out the bacon bits and sour cream. YUM - and easy family favorite!
I can't wait, wait, wait until my first post op visit on Wednesday. Dying to see what my feet look like under these pink and purple wrappers and pretty sure the doctor will be so amazed at my recovery that he will let me out of these boots way sooner than 5 weeks - LOL!!
Yes, I was curious how work went today. I figured MAYBE i'd put in an hour or so on Monday, Nov. 22 if I'm up to it. Right now I pretty much have myself covered for a while and have other people leading my meetings unless they hear from me. I've sent out all the agenda and everything to make things easy. Yet, I do have little to do's each day. Next week being Thanksgiving should make things slowly than usual. I think I'd welcome a little work here and there but I don't want to be doing 8 hours right out of the gate. Did you request family leave or no? For my plan if I work an 8 hour day within the first 10 business days then the Family Leave starts all over, but if I don't then my short term disability kicks in on day 11. I have enough sick time built up that I will be able to get paid the whole time I am off, yet I do plan to work if I feel up too it just not a full eight hours until my short term disability kicks in.
ReplyDeleteI truly admire how you are working out each day!! Do you feel good body wise and stuff or because your not doing any cardio do you feel a bit sluggish?
Okay. I gotta get to bed. Make sure you get those naps in so your foot heals, heals, and heals some more. Good luck on Wednesday as well. I was also thinking I wonder if you doing your little work outs has been what has been helping since your getting the blood moving throughout your body verses laying on a couch all day. Who knows, but whatever it is it's working for you and that's all that matters.
You are still amazing me with you recovery. Just make sure you are careful of not being on your feet too much. When I started feeling better I made cabbage rolls and vacuumed on day 10. The next day I was having my stitches taken out and my doc fussed at me b/c my feet were swollen pretty bad. Of corse the swelling would make them hurt worse. So even though I felt like doing more I forced myself to keep them up and iced for most of the day for the next several days. Today is my 6 week check-up (which it won't be 6-wks until Friday). My dr in in surgery on Thursday and Fridays so I was also 3 days early on getting my stitches out. Although I can only wear one pair of my old stretched out shoes, I feel like my recovery has gone very well. I am excited that my scars look so good! My doc did a great job! Thanks for your blog! Julie you will do great! Recovery seems like a long process, but it does go pretty fast especially looking back on it! Blessings and prayers!
ReplyDeleteI got a good report from my dr today and lots of nice comments on how well my scars looked. I will email pics of my feet before, first post-op, and how they look now if you don't care to share your email. I have Julie's and Sara's, but don't have yours.
ReplyDelete@Julie - I have short term disability that I could have gotten 100% pay for 5-6 weeks my doctor would sign off on me staying home, but I really felt that I could be working and didn't want to put the extra load on my team. I'm weird like that. :/ I was told that I couldn't work at ALL if I went on disability because I would be locked out of the system and would not have access.
ReplyDeleteThis was day two. I mainly just feel extra tired. Not too sluggish because I am stilling getting a little cardio from my weight/core routine and these darn boots probably weigh and extra 10 lbs. - LOL!
I pray your surgery and recovery goes as well as mine!
@Katbird - I am VERY careful about how much time I spend on my feet. I have been going by Sara's notes when her doctor said no more than 10 minutes in a 2 hr. period. I will get an update from my doc tomorrow! My email is debandkend@yahoo.com. Would LOVE to see your pics! So glad you and doctor are thrilled with your results, too!
